Post Convention Tour

The local PCOC 2011 group has set up two post-convention activities on Monday, October 3rd for attendees who are interested. You have the opportunity to pick from one or both.

Seattle Tour

Left: Pike Place Market. Right: market stalls.

The tour provided by Tours Northwest starts from the Westin Bellevue hotel at 10:00 AM. You will visit the historic Pike Place Market, the original business district of Seattle, Pioneer Square and the Chinatown-International District where many of the Asian and Malaysian immigrants began their life in the United States. There will be a lunch stop during the tour in the Chinatown-International District where you will have an opportunity to pick from many Pan-Asian choices in the area. If there is time, Tours Northwest has offered to take us to other areas of interest. The tour will end at the Westin Bellevue hotel at 2:30 PM. The deadline to sign up for this tour is Thursday, September 29th. The cost of the tour is $62 per person.

Glassblowing in Redmond [CLOSED]

Registration for the glassblowing class is now closed.

The Pacific Northwest is noted for its glass art community due to the pioneering and promotional efforts of Tacoma, Washington native, Dale Chihuly. You have an opportunity to make your own glass float or ornament at the Redmond School of Glass. Tours Northwest will provide transportation from the Westin Bellevue hotel starting at 2:30 PM. As you can imagine, space is limited, so sign up early. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 23rd. The cost for this opportunity is $90 per person that includes transportation, class cost and shipping/delivery of your completed glass art.

Due to the extreme temperature required for glassblowing you must follow these rules for attire:

  • Bring a pair of glasses – These can be ordinary eyeglasses, sunglasses or safety glasses.
  • Wear comfortable clothing for the temperature, but not loose or flowing clothing that could catch fire. T-shirt and jeans are the optimal attire.
  • Do not wear sandals or flip-flops.
  • Long hair must be tied back and tucked.
